Summary

Recommended. Handsome and useful, the Zafira combines tough construction, strong driving dynamics and the practical appeal of seven seats.

Styling

The second generation Zafira looks very similar to the original. Its handsome enough, in an unmemorable way.

Handling

Drives far better than you would expect from a seven-seat people carrier with lots of grip and responsive handling.

Comfort

Good seats mean the Zafira is a comfortable place to spend time, although the fold-away third row will only suit smaller children. Reasonably refined on motorways but can ride roughly in town.

Quality

Tough, durable and well finished - the Zafiras cabin feels well up to withstanding the sort of abuse meted out by young families.

Performance

The basic 1.6 litre petrol version feels slow, all others have decent performance. Range topping 2.0 SRI turbo, 2.0 VXR and 1.9 CDTi 150 turbo-diesel are all extremely rapid.

Roominess

The Zafira is only a mid-sized MPV, but it is considerably more practical than many of its full-sized rivals thanks to the fold-away third row of seating. There are plenty of cubby holes and places to store small items, too.

Costs

Cheap main dealer workshops and long service intervals help the Zafiras case when it comes to cost-per-mile. Residuals are respectable, too.

Value

Attractive entry level pricing masks some relatively stingy kit on the more basic models, and towards the top of the range the Zafira starts to look quite expensive.

Stereo

Decent basic system can be improved with various optional upgrades. Satnav is relatively old-fashioned and lacks features compared to some rival systems.
